Junior Research Biologist
Bombay Natural History Society, Mumbai invites applications for engaging in Junior Research Biologist for the “Long Term Ecological Monitoring of Eastern Seascape of Mumbai and Formulating a Conservation Blueprint for the Sewri–Nhava Seascape”.
Essential and Desirable qualifications are as follows –
Name of the Post – Junior Research Biologist (3) Marine benthic studies
Duration – Initially, for one year (performance-based). Those who will be selected for Ph. D. will get 5-year tenure.
Type of Engagement – Purely on a contractual basis
Age – Up to 28 years
Ph. D. positions – Selected candidates will be entitled to register for Ph. D. qualifying PET (Zoology) under this project.
Other – Selected candidates will be posted in Mumbai and need to undertake fieldwork around Sewri–Nhava Seascape.

Emoluments – Rs. 20,000 CTS, Health and accident insurance policy and basic accommodation facility on sharing basis.
Essential Qualification –
- Post Graduate Degree in Zoology/ Marine Biology/Oceanography/Life Sciences/ Biodiversity and Conservation/ Wildlife Science/ Environmental Science, with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized university.
- Those who wish to register for Ph. D. must have cleared PET from the University of Mumbai in Zoology.
- Sound knowledge of marine habitats and biodiversity, ecology of coastal habitats
Desirable Qualification –
- Preference will be given to the candidate having sound knowledge about the taxonomic identification of marine benthic fauna.
- Experience/interest in intensive fieldwork benthos sample collection and analysis.
- Water quality analysis.
- Basic knowledge of statistics and GIS.
- Good writing and communication skills.
Task Description –
- Basic planning for fieldwork and sample collections /analysis for benthos/plankton/water parameters
- Sample collection and data analysis for water/sediment quality (pollutants, texture and heavy metals).
- Report writing
