Junior Research Biologist

Bombay Natural History Society, Mumbai invites applications for engaging in Junior Research Biologist for the “Long Term Ecological Monitoring of Eastern Seascape of Mumbai and Formulating a Conservation Blueprint for the Sewri–Nhava Seascape”.

Essential and Desirable qualifications are as follows –

Name of the Post – Junior Research Biologist (3) Marine benthic studies

Duration – Initially, for one year (performance-based). Those who will be selected for Ph. D. will get 5-year tenure.

Type of Engagement – Purely on a contractual basis

Age – Up to 28 years

Ph. D. positions – Selected candidates will be entitled to register for Ph. D. qualifying PET (Zoology) under this project.

Other – Selected candidates will be posted in Mumbai and need to undertake fieldwork around Sewri–Nhava Seascape.

Emoluments – Rs. 20,000 CTS, Health and accident insurance policy and basic accommodation facility on sharing basis.

Essential Qualification –

1. Post Graduate Degree in Zoology/ Marine Biology/Oceanography/Life Sciences/ Biodiversity and Conservation/ Wildlife Science/ Environmental Science, with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized university.
2. Those who wish to register for Ph. D. must have cleared PET from the University of Mumbai in Zoology.
3. Sound knowledge of marine habitats and biodiversity, ecology of coastal habitats

Desirable Qualification –

1. Preference will be given to the candidate having sound knowledge about the taxonomic identification of marine benthic fauna.
2. Experience/interest in intensive fieldwork benthos sample collection and analysis.
3. Water quality analysis.
4. Basic knowledge of statistics and GIS.
5. Good writing and communication skills.

Task Description –

1. Basic planning for fieldwork and sample collections /analysis for benthos/plankton/water parameters
2. Sample collection and data analysis for water/sediment quality (pollutants, texture and heavy metals).
3. Report writing
